WEEKLY MEMORY VERSE
“The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times
of trouble. And those who know Your name will put their trust
in You; for You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.”
Psalm 9:9-10 (NKJV)
MATTERS OF THE HEART
“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it springs the issues of life.”
Proverbs 4:23 NKJV
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it? I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind.” Jeremiah 17:9-10a NKJV
ONE OF THE MOST SINISTER AND DEADLY EMOTIONS OF THE HEART IS JEALOUSY.
WHAT IS THE SOURCE OF JEALOUSY?
“What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?” James 4:1 NIV
THIS HEART DISEASE LEAVES US NEVER SATISFIED.
“You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight.” James 4:2a NIV
TWO EMOTIONAL SIGNALS OF SATISFACTION:
IT TELLS US WE CAN STOP NOW.
I CAN ENJOY MY LABOR.
“Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good!’’
Genesis 1:31a NLT
“I am not telling you this because I need anything. I have learned to be satisfied with the things I have and with everything that happens. I know how to live when I am poor, and I know how to live when I have plenty. I have learned the secret of being happy at any time in everything that happens, when I have enough to eat and when I go hungry, when I have more than I need and when I do not have enough. I can do all things through Christ, because he gives me strength.” Philippians 4:11-13 NCV
WHAT DO I DO WITH MY HEART’S APPETITES AND DESIRES?
1) BRING ALL YOUR HEART’S DESIRES TO YOUR CREATOR.
You do not have because you do not ask God.” James 4:2b NIV
“May He grant you according to your heart’s desire, and fulfill all your purpose.” Psalms 20:4 NKJV
“You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” John 14:14 NIV
“Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.” John 16:24 NIV
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24 NIV
“casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 NKJV
2) LEARN TO ACCEPT NO FOR AN ANSWER BUT TRUST HIM FOR SOMETHING BETTER.
“When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” James 4:3 NIV
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father.” James 1:17a NKJV
