IS THE GOD YOU KNOW WORTH KNOWING?
GOD WANTS US TO LIVE ON MISSION.
“In the same way that you gave me a mission in the world, I give them a mission in the world.” John 17:18 MSG
“I don’t care about my own life. The most important thing is that I complete my mission, the work that the Lord Jesus gave me—to tell people the Good News about God’s grace.” Acts 20:24 NCV
“And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus…” Ephesians 2:6 NIV
JESUS TELLS HIS DISCIPLES WHO THEIR MISSION IS.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 NIV
Jerusalem = The people closest to me
Judea/Samaria = The people near me but different from me
Ends of the earth = Everybody else
HOW CAN WE FULFILL OUR MISSION?
1) PRAY FOR OPEN DOORS AND LOOK FOR DIVINE APPOINTMENTS.
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ…” Colossians 4:2-4 NIV
“Jesus was going through the city of Jericho. A man was there named Zacchaeus, who was a very important tax collector, and he was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but he was not able because he was too short to see above the crowd. He ran ahead to a place where Jesus would come, and he climbed a sycamore tree so he could see him. When Jesus came to that place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down! I must stay at your house today.” Zacchaeus came down quickly and welcomed him gladly.” Luke 19:1-6 NCV
PEOPLE HAVE BARRIERS
2) DEVELOP FRIENDSHIPS AND FIND COMMON GROUND.
“When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some.” 1 Corinthians 9:22 NLT
3) REACH OUT AND SHARE IN PEOPLE’S BURDENS.
“Stoop down and reach out to those who are oppressed. Share their burdens, and so complete Christ’s law…” Galatians 6:2 MSG
“Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight…” James 1:27a MSG
4) BE PREPARED TO HAVE A SPIRITUAL CONVERSATION.
“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…” 1 Peter 3:15 NIV
“Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” Colossians 4:5-6 NIV
5) INVITE PEOPLE INTO YOUR LIFE.
“For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.” Matthew 25:35-36 NLT
6) TELL YOUR STORY.
“Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” Mark 5:19b NKJV
“But before people can ask the Lord for help, they must believe in him; and before they can believe in him, they must hear about him; and for them to hear about the Lord, someone must tell them; and before someone can go and tell them, that person must be sent. It is written, “How beautiful is the person who comes to bring good news.”” Romans 10:14-15 NCV
