The Chair - Sept 1 & 2

HOW IS YOUR PRAYER LIFE?

“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” Luke 5:16 NIV

WHY IS PRAYER SO IMPORTANT?

ONE REASON PRAYER IS SO IMPORTANT IS BECAUSE IT’S A PARTNERSHIP

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 NIV

TEAMING UP WITH GOD IN PRAYER PRODUCES MANY WONDERFUL BENEFITS:

“The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” James 5:16b NLT

1)    PRAYER IS HOW GOD WANTS TO MEET YOUR NEEDS.

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 NLT

2)    PRAYER ACTIVATES MY HEART FOR THE WORK OF THE MINISTRY.

“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”” Matthew 9:36-38 NLT

“Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia. After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them. So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them.” Acts 16:6-10 NKJV

3)    PRAYER HELPS OPEN PEOPLES HEART TO HEAR THE GOSPEL.

“And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts.” Mark 4:15 NKJV

“If the Good News that we preach is hidden, it is hidden only to those who are lost. The devil who rules this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe. They cannot see the light of the Good News…” 2 Corinthians 4:3-4a NCV

4)    PRAYER RELEASES POWER FOR MIRACLES.

“So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.” Acts 12:5 NIV

“Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me…”” Acts 12:11a NIV

“… as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.” 2 Corinthians 1:11 NIV

“… if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV

5)    PRAYER HELPS ME OVERCOME TEMPTATION.

“Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!” Matthew 26:41 NLT

6)    PRAYER MAKES GOD’S WISDOM AVAILABLE.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5 NKJV

7)    PRAYER HELPS ME FIND THE POWER TO FORGIVE.

“Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Luke 23:34 NIV
