OPENING THE DOOR TO A BETTER LIFE

BREAKING THROUGH THE COMMUNICATION BARRIER

LOVING RELATIONSHIPS ARE BUILT ON GRACE FILLED TRUTH TELLING

“Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ…” Ephesians 4:15a NLT

THREE REASONS WE HAVE COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWNS

1)    WE MAKE ASSUMPTIONS

“Anyone who answers without listening is foolish and confused.” Proverbs 18:13 NCV

2)    WE MAKE ACCUSATIONS

“For the Scriptures say, “If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies.” 1 Peter 3:10 NLT

“Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.” 1 Peter 3:7 NKJV

3)    WE HAVE APPREHENSIONS

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18 NIV

 ·      WE ARE APPREHENSIVE ABOUT OUR WEAKNESSES

“I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling.” 1 Corinthians 2:3 NLT

“When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some.” 1 Corinthians 9:22 NLT

·      WE ARE APPREHENSIVE ABOUT OUR FAILURES

“Don't be happy to see your enemies trip and fall down.” Proverbs 24:17 CEV

·      WE ARE APPREHENSIVE ABOUT EXPERIENCING REJECTION

“Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.” Proverbs 29:25 NIV

4 TAKE AWAYS

1)    YOU MUST MAKE IT SAFE.

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18 NIV

2)    YOU HAVE TO TAKE A RISK

“Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed..” James 5:16a NKJV

3)    YOU MUST PRACTICE SENDING CLEAR MESSAGES

“But let your “Yes” be “Yes,” and your “No,” “No,” lest you fall into judgment.” James 5:12 NKJV

4)    YOU MUST PRACTICE LISTENING TO UNDERSTAND

“Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.” I Peter 3:7 NIV
