Purpose of Prayer - Jan 13 & 14

HOW MANY WOULD LIKE A BLESSED LIFE?

“Then he told me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘You will not succeed by your own strength or by your own power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD All-Powerful.”" Zechariah 4:6 NCV

“Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.” And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.” 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 NKJV

GIVING FUEL TO MY PRAYERS

“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:16b NKJV

1)    WE GROW MORE EFFECTIVE IN PRAYER WHEN WE FEED ON GOD’S WORD.

“It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4 NKJV

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Joshua 1:8 NKJV

2)    WE GROW MORE EFFECTIVE IN PRAYER WHEN BELIEVE WE WILL RECEIVE.

“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” 1 John 5:14-15 NKJV

“Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you.”” Matthew 9:29 NIV

“Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” Mark 11:24 NKJV

3)    WE GROW MORE EFFECTIVE IN PRAYER WHEN MAKE PRAYER A HABIT.

“All who compete in the games use strict training. They do this so that they can win a prize—one that doesn’t last. But our prize is one that will last forever.”  1 Corinthians 9:25 ERV

3 HABITS TO DEVELOP

·      A daily time with God

·      A weekly habit of corporate gathering

“not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25 NIV

·      A weekly habit of small group gathering

“Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:19-20 NKJV

4)    WE GROW MORE EFFECTIVE IN PRAYER WHEN WE SERVE OTHERS.

“‘May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.’ Whenever Aaron and his sons bless the people of Israel in my name, I myself will bless them.” Numbers 6:24-27 NLT

·      When we bless others it releases our gifts.

“A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men.” Proverbs 18:16 NKJV

·      When we bless others it keeps our heart free of bitterness.

“But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven;” Matthew 5:44-45a NKJV
