FIVE HABITS FOR LIFE CHANGE
THE HABIT OF SEEKING GOD
“… he asked him, ‘Of all the commandments, which is the most important?’” Mark 12:28b NIV
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31 NIV
A BIG QUESTION TO CONSIDER: WHAT IS GOD LIKE?
“In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being…” Hebrews 1:3a NIV
“If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” John 14:7-9 NIV
JESUS’ DISPOSITION TOWARDS PEOPLE IS THE SAME AS GOD’S DISPOSITION TOWARDS PEOPLE
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” John 3:16-17 ESV
TWO BENEFITS OF WORSHIP
1) WHEN WE WORSHIP GOD WE GIVE HIM WHAT HE DESIRES.
“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.” John 4:23 ESV
2) WORSHIP IS A LIFESTYLE THAT RELEASES SUPERNATURAL POWER.
“Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.” Psalm 8:2 NKJV
“When I cry out to You, then my enemies will turn back; This I know, because God is for me.” Psalm 56:9 NKJV
“But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s chains were loosed.” Acts 16:25-26 NKJV
THREE SIMPLE HABITS YOU CAN PRACTICE IN YOUR WORSHIP
1) PRACTICE PREPARING YOUR HEART FOR WORSHIP.
“These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.” Matthew 15:8-9 NIV
2) PRACTICE PUTTING GOD FIRST.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 NKJV
3) PRACTICE SURRENDERING YOUR TO GOD.
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” Romans 12:1 NIV
WORSHIP CAN HAVE MANY EXPRESSIONS, BUT TRUE WORSHIP ISN’T A STYLE. IT’S OUR RESPONSE TO THE VALUE WE PLACE ON GOD’S WORTH.
