GRACE - Oct 13 & 14

THE FIFTH FACET OF GOD’S GRACE IS SELFLESS GRACE

“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” Philippians 2:3-4 NKJV

WHAT IS SELFLESS GRACE? THE GRACE THAT CAUSES ME…

  • TO THINK OF OTHERS

  • TO SERVE OTHERS

  • TO BE GENEROUS

“And now, brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people. And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us. So we urged Titus, just as he had earlier made a beginning, to bring also to completion this act of grace on your part. But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you— see that you also excel in this grace of giving.” 2 Corinthians 8:1-7 NIV

FOUR BENEFITS OF GIVING

1)    GIVING BRINGS JOY IN MY TRAILS.

“In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.” 2 Corinthians 8:2 NIV

“… remembering the words that the Lord Jesus himself said, ‘There is more happiness in giving than in receiving.’” Acts 20:35b GNB

  • Believe, believer and believing

  • Pray, prayer and praying

  • Love, lover and loving

  • Give, giver and giving

“…who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross.” Hebrews 12:2b NKJV

2)    GIVING INCREASES THE FAVOR OF GOD IN MY LIFE.

“For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own…” 2 Corinthians 8:3 NIV

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:8 NKJV

“The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.” Proverbs 11:25 NLT

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38 NIV

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.” 2 Corinthians 9:6 NIV

3)    GIVING HELPS FREE ME FROM SELFISHNESS AND MATERIALISM.

“They urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people. And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us.” 2 Corinthians 8:4-5 NIV

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7 NIV

“Tell people who are rich at this time not to become egotistical and not to place their hope on their finances, which are uncertain. Instead, they need to hope in God, who richly provides everything for our enjoyment. Tell them to do good, to be rich in the good things they do, to be generous, and to share with others. When they do these things, they will save a treasure for themselves that is a good foundation for the future. That way they can take hold of what is truly life.” 1 Timothy 6:17-19 CEB

4)    GIVING HELPS BRING THE COMPLETION TO GOD’S GRACE.

“So we urged Titus, just as he had earlier made a beginning, to bring also to completion this act of grace on your part.” 2 Corinthians 8:6 NIV

“As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God. For your generosity to them and to all believers will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ. And they will pray for you with deep affection because of the overflowing grace God has given to you. Thank God for this gift too wonderful for words!” 2 Corinthians 9:13-15 NLT

“I am not commanding you to do this. But I am testing how genuine your love is by comparing it with the eagerness of the other churches. You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.” 2 Corinthians 8:8-9 NLT

“But generous people plan to do what is generous, and they stand firm in their generosity.” Isaiah 32:8 NLT
