"I AM _____." Getting to Know God

JEHOVAH -SHALOM THE LORD IS PEACE

“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord…” 2 Peter 1:2 NKJVp

“My people are being destroyed because they don’t know me…”  Hosea 4:6a NLT

THE BACK GROUND

“… another generation grew up who knew neither the LORD nor what he had done for Israel. Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD and served the Baals. They forsook the LORD, the God of their ancestors…” Judges 2:10b-12a NIV

“But the wicked are like the troubled sea, When it cannot rest, Whose waters cast up mire and dirt. “There is no peace,” Says my God, “for the wicked.”” Isaiah 57:20-21 NKJV

“The angel of the LORD came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. When the angel of the LORD appeared to Gideon, he said, “The LORD is with you, mighty warrior.” “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said, ‘Did not the LORD bring us up out of Egypt?’ But now the LORD has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian.” The LORD turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” The LORD answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.”” Judges 6:11-16 NIV

“Then Gideon understood he had been talking to the angel of the LORD. So Gideon cried out, “Lord G OD! I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face!” But the LORD said to Gideon, “Calm down! Don’t be afraid! You will not die!” So Gideon built an altar there to worship the LORD and named it The LORD Is Peace.” Judges 6:22-24a NCV

HOW CAN I GET TO KNOW THE GOD OF PEACE BETTER?

1)    BY PUTTING YOUR TRUST IN CHRIST

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,”.  Romans 5:1 NKJV

“… and through him to reconcile to himself all things, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.” Colossians 1:20 NIV

"Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 NKJV

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NKJV

2)    BY LOVING GOD’S WORD

“Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.” Psalm 119:165 NIV

3)    BY KEEPING WORSHIP (NOT PAIN AVOIDANCE) YOUR FOCUS

“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3 NKJV

“So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.” Romans 8:6 NLT

4)    BY HAVING A PRAYER LIFE

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-30 MSG

5)    BY BEING EASY TO GET ALONG WITH

“… endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:3 NKJV

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.” Colossians 3:15 NKJV
