HONORING MOTHERS

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.””  Ephesians 6:1-3 NIV

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HONOR?

Honor is being respectful in thought, word and deed. It is an inner attitude with a outward expression

“Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart.” Luke 2:51 NIV

“My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. What you learn from them will crown you with grace and be a chain of honor around your neck.” Proverbs 1:8-9 NLT

HOW YOU CAN HONOR YOUR MOTHER?

1)    LOVE HER UNCONDITIONALLY

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 NKJV

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8 NIV

2)    FORGIVE HER COMPASSIONATELY

“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Colossians 3:13 NIV

3)    REMEMBER HER AND SPEAK GRATEFULLY

“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy.” Philippians 1:3-4 NIV

“But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” Hebrews 3:13 NIV

4)    TREAT HER KINDLY

“Be kind and compassionate to one another...”  Ephesians 4:32a NIV
