GET THE LOG OUT OF MY OWN EYE FIRST!
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” Matthew 7:3-5 NIV

ASK A MATURE CHRISTIAN WHO KNOWS YOU

WHAT DO I EXAMINE?
1) EXAMINE MY WORDS
DO I CONTROL MY TONGUE?
“Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. …. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.” James 3:5-6, 8b NIV
WHAT WORDS SHOULD I LOOK FOR?
· RECKLESS WORDS
“The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” Proverbs 12:18 NIV
· GRUMBLING AND COMPLAINING
“Do everything without grumbling or arguing.” Philippians 2:14 NIV
“Do not testify against your neighbor without cause— would you use your lips to mislead?” Proverbs 24:28 NIV
“You belong to your father, the devil… When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” John 8:44 NIV
“A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.” Proverbs 16:28 NIV
“Without wood a fire goes out; without a gossip a quarrel dies down.” Proverbs 26:20 NIV
“In you are men who slander to cause bloodshed;” Ezekiel 22:9 NKJV
“Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.” Ephesians 4:29 NKJV
2) EXAMINE MY ACTIONS
“Lazy people irritate their employers, like vinegar to the teeth or smoke in the eyes.” Proverbs 10:26 NLT
“Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble Is like a bad tooth and a foot out of joint.” Proverbs 25:19 NKJV
“If you have trapped yourself by your agreement and are caught by what you said— follow my advice and save yourself, for you have placed yourself at your friend’s mercy. Now swallow your pride; go and beg to have your name erased.” Proverbs 6:2-3 NLT
“… They keep their promises to their neighbors, even when it hurts.” Psalm 15:4b NCV
“Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 7:12 NKJV
3) EXAMINE MY MOTIVES
“What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” James 4:1-3 NIV
“For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what defile a person;” Matthew 15:19-20 NIV

· COMFORT OVER PURPOSE
GOD’ S PROMISE
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26 NKJV
