HOPE FOR RELATIONSHIPS

WALKING IN LOVE

“Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.” Ephesians 5:1-2 NKJV

“Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold,” Matthew 24:12 NIV

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35 NKJV

HOW DO I WALK IN LOVE? PRACTICE

“No one has ever seen God, but if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is made perfect in us.” 1 John 4:12 NCV

1)    PRACTICE EXPERIENCING GOD’S LOVE PERSONALLY

“We love Him because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19 NKJV

2)    PRACTICE REFUSING TO GET OFFENDED

“Then He said to the disciples, “It is impossible that no offenses should come…” Luke 17:1a  NKJV

3)    PRACTICE FORGIVENESS

“... if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.” Colossians 3:13b NKJV

“To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back.” Luke 6:29  NKJV

 4)    PRACTICE LOVING YOUR ENEMIES

“But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,” Luke 6:27 NKJV

HONOR …

·      THINK WELL OF OTHERS

·      SPEAKS WELL OF OTHERS

·      SERVES OTHERS WELL

5)    PRACTICE DOING GOOD

“Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”     Romans 12:17-21 NKJV

6)    PRACTICE EXAMINING MY OWN MOTIVES

"And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye." Matthew 7:3-5 NKJV

“Examine me, O God, and know my mind; test me, and discover my thoughts. Find out if there is any evil in me and guide me in the everlasting way.” Psalm 139:23-24 GNT

“He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.” 1 John 2:10 NKJV

“Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him. Jesus answered them, “Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?” The Jews answered Him, saying, ‘For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.’” John 10:31-33 NKJV

7)    PRACTICE OFFERING RECONCILIATION

“Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.” Matthew 5:23-24 NIV

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Matthew 5:9 NIV
