CREATING A CULTURE OF HONOR

“Honor all people, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the king.” 1 Peter 2:17 NET

TO HONOR MEANS I HOLD SOMEONE IN ESTEEM AND BESTOW VALUE UPON THEM

  • WE ARE TO HONOR OUR PARENTS

“Honor your father and your mother so that you will live a long time in the land that the LORD your God is going to give you.” Exodus 20:12 NCV

  • WE ARE TO HONOR THOSE IN AUTHORITY

See Romans 13:1-7.

“Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.” Romans 13:7 NIV

RESPECT IS SOMETHING YOU EARN
HONOR IS SOMETHING YOU FREELY GIVE

1)    GOD WANTS US TO GO OUT OF OUR WAY TO DEMONSTRATE HONOR

“Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.” Romans 12:9-10 ESV

“Love each other like the members of your family. Be the best at showing honor to each other.”  Romans 12:10 CEB

2)    HONOR OTHERS COMES BY PRACTICING HUMILITY

“When you do things, do not let selfishness or pride be your guide. Instead, be humble and give more honor to others than to yourselves.” Philippians 2:3 NCV

3)    HONORING OTHERS RELEASES GOD’S POWER

“The same goes for you husbands: Be good husbands to your wives. Honor them, delight in them. As women they lack some of your advantages. But in the new life of God’s grace, you’re equals. Treat your wives, then, as equals so your prayers don’t run aground.” 1 Peter 3:7 MSG

“Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.” 1 Peter 3:7 NKJV
