Born For This

“And He spoke a parable to them: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch? A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother’s eye.” Luke 6:39-42 NKJV

“IT IS EASIER TO BUILD STRONG CHILDREN THAN TO REPAIR BROKEN MEN”
Frederick Douglass

“Look, I am sending you the prophet Elijah before the great and dreadful day of the LORD arrives. His preaching will turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers. Otherwise I will come and strike the land with a curse.”  Malachi 4:5-6 NLT

WHEN GOD WANTS TO HELP PEOPLE HE RAISES UP A LEADER

“Then the LORD told him, “I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own fertile and spacious land. It is a land flowing with milk and honey—the land where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites now live. Look! The cry of the people of Israel has reached me, and I have seen how harshly the Egyptians abuse them. Now go, for I am sending you to Pharaoh. You must lead my people Israel out of Egypt.” But Moses protested to God, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?” Exodus 3:7-11 NLT

THREE CHALLENGES MEN FACE TO BECOMING LEADERS

I AM NOT COMFORTABLE THINKING OF MYSELF AS A LEADER

IT’S CALLED INSECURITY

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” II Timothy 1:7 NKJV

I DON’T FEEL QUALIFIED TO CALL MYSELF A LEADER

IT’S CALLED INADEQUACY

But Moses protested to God, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?” Exodus 3:11  NLT

Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.” Colossians 1:12 NKJV

I AM NOT INTERESTED IN BEING A LEADER

IT’S CALLED IMMATURITY

“A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; He rages against all wise judgment.”     Proverbs 18:1 NKJV

4 QUALITIES OF A SPIRITUAL FATHER

“For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.” I Corinthians 4:15 NKJV

1)    FATHERS ARE GATHERS

“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.”    Luke 13:34 NIV

2)    FATHERS ARE GUIDES “I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the LORD Almighty.” II Corinthians 6:18 NKJV

“With each of you we were like a father with his child, holding your hand, whispering encouragement, showing you step-by-step how to live well before God, who called us into his own kingdom, into this delightful life.” 1 Thessalonians 2:11-12 MSG

“So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.  John 5:19 NLT

3)    FATHERS ARE PROTECTORS

“A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His holy habitation.” Psalms 68:5 NKJV

“My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you,” Galatians 4:19 NKJV

“And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.” Luke 22:31-32 NKJV

4)    FATHERS ARE PROVIDERS

“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.” I John 3:1 NKJV
