HONORING AUTHORITIES
7-31-16
Week 8

“... Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,” 1 Peter 3:15b NIV

“Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin and said, “My brothers, I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day.” At this the high priest Ananias ordered those standing near Paul to strike him on the mouth. Then Paul said to him, “God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! You sit there to judge me according to the law, yet you yourself violate the law by commanding that I be struck!” Those who were standing near Paul said, “How dare you insult God’s high priest!” Paul replied, “Brothers, I did not realize that he was the high priest; for it is written: ‘Do not speak evil about the ruler of your people." Acts 23:1-5 NIV

“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.” Romans 13:1-5 NIV

“Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.” Titus 3:1-2 NKJV

WE ( GOD’S CHURCH ) IS THE HOPE FOR THE WORLD

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:13-16 NKJV

WHAT IS OUR FLAVOR?

1) UNITY PRODUCED BY OUR WORSHIP
“And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.” John 12:32 NKJV

“When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.” Matthew 17:8 NKJV

2) LOVE PRODUCED BY OUR FELLOWSHIP
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35 NIV

3) PEACE PRODUCED BY OUR MATURITY
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Matthew 5:9 NIV

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:18 NIV

“And He spoke a parable to them: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch? A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother’s eye.” Luke 6:39-42 NKJV

4) HOPE PRODUCED BY OUR MISSION
“But we have the true hope that comes from being made right with God, and by the Spirit we wait eagerly for this hope.”
Galatians 5:5 NCV

“God decided to let his people know this rich and glorious secret which he has for all people. This secret is Christ himself, who is in you. He is our only hope for glory.” Colossians 1:27 NCV

5) GOOD WORKS PRODUCED BY OUR MINISTRY
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify
your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 NKJV

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV
