I FOUND FREEDOM
4-10-16

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1 (NIV)

“I am shocked that you are turning away so soon from God, who called you to himself through the loving mercy of Christ. You are following a different way that pretends to be the Good News.” Galatians 1:6 (NLT)

THREE TRAPS TO AVOID

PERFECTIONISM

“You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?” Galatians 3:1-3 (NIV)

“So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?” Galatians 3:5 (NIV)

“Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because the righteous will live by faith.” Galatians 3:11 (NIV)

LEGALISM

“Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. But now that you know God—or rather are known by God—how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable forces? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?” Galatians 4:8-9 (NIV)

“Where is that joyful and grateful spirit you felt then? Galatians 4:15a (NLT)

“You are observing special days and months and seasons and years!” Galatians 4:10 (NIV)

One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. Romans 14:5-6 (NIV)

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, Romans 14:17 (NIV)

“For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory.” II Corinthians 3:9 (NKJV)

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1 (NIV)

CONFORMITY

“You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth?” Galatians 5:7 (NIV)

“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:6-7 (NLT)

HOW DO I MAINTAIN MY FREEDOM?

*ASK GOD FOR HIS HELP “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32 (NKJV)

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,” Luke 4:18 (NIV)

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2 Corinthians 3:17 (NIV)

*GET A CLEAR PICTURE IN YOUR MIND OF WHAT CHRIST HAS DONE

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8 (NIV)

*PRACTICE DEVOTION NOT DUTY

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7 (NIV)

·      EXPRESS GRATEFULNESS

“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” II Corint
