SPIRITUAL SENSITIVITY

Week 1

 WHAT IS SPIRITUAL SENSITIVITY?

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” Revelation 3:20 (NKJV)

“And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” Luke 2:52 (NIV)

“Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:6-8 (NIV)

HOW CAN I BE SHAPED BY GOD’S SPIRIT?

1) RECOGNIZE GOD WANTS TO SPEAK TO YOU

“Then the Lord called Samuel. Samuel answered, “Here I am.” And he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” But Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down. Again the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” “My son,” Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord: The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. A third time the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” 1 Samuel 3:4-10 (NIV)

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” Revelation 2:29 (NKJV)

“And he said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you.” Mark 4:24 (ESV)

2) INVITED GOD TO SPEAK INTO YOUR LIFE

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”  John 10:27 (NKJV)

3) USE GODS WORD AS YOUR BASELINE

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”  Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)

KNOWLEDGE OF GOD’S WORD

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Hosea 4:6 (NKJV)

*PERSPECTIVE OF GOD’S WORD

“Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him.” Luke 15:1 (NKJV)

*CONVICTION ABOUT GOD’S WORD  “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17 (NKJV)

*APPLICATION OF GOD’S WORD

4) TAKE SOME SMALL STEPS OF FAITH

“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” John 16:13 (NKJV)

“But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,” Luke 6:27 (NKJV)

5) STAY MOTIVATED BY LOVE

“Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit…” 1 Corinthians 14:1a (NIV)
