WHAT IS GOD ASKING YOU TO DO?
Week 4 12-26-15

MOSES ARGUES WITH GODS CALLING

“Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.” So when the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” Exodus 3:1-4 (NKJV)

THREE THINGS THAT GET OUR ATTENTION

1) THINGS THAT THREATEN US

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NKJV)

2) THINGS THAT INTEREST US
“You crown the year with Your goodness, And Your paths drip with abundance.” Psalms 65:11 (NKJV)

And he did evil, because he did not prepare his heart to seek the Lord. II Chronicles 12:14 (NKJV)

3) THINGS WE FIND CURIOUS
Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.” Exodus
3:3 (NKJV)

And the LORD said: “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows. So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians...

Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” Exodus 3: 7-8, 10 (NKJV)

SOMEONE IS WAITING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF YOUR OBEDIENCE

“And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” Acts 16:9 (NKJV)

FIVE OBJECTIONS THE CALL OF GOD OVERCOMES

1) WHO AM I?
“But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh…?” Exodus
3:11a -12a (NKJV)

So He said, “I will certainly be with you. Exodus 3:11a -12a (NKJV)

2) WHO ARE YOU?
“Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?” Exodus
3:11 (NKJV)

And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.” Exodus 3:14 (NKJV)

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke 4:18-19 (NIV)

3) THE PEOPLE WON’T BELIEVE ME
Moses objected, “They won’t trust me. They won’t listen to a word I say. They’re going to say, “GOD? Appear to him? Hardly!” Exodus 4:1 (MSG)

4) I HATE PUBLIC SPEAKING
Moses raised another objection to GOD: “Master, please, I don’t talk well. I’ve never been good with words, neither before nor after you spoke to me. I stutter and stammer.” Exodus
4:10 (MSG)

5) CAN YOU ASK SOMEONE ELSE?
He said, “Oh, Master, please! Send somebody else!” Exodus
4: 13 (MSG)

“But not with my servant Moses. Of all my house, he is the one I trust.” Numbers 12:7 (NLT)
