GETTING TO KNOW GOD
Week3
3 9-19-15

GOD IS OMNIPOTENT
ALL POWERFUL

“O Sovereign LORD! You made the heavens and earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you! (Jeremiah 32:17 NLT)

Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” (Luke 18:27 NIV

THREE WAYS GOD REVEALS HIS POWER

CREATION DECLARES THE POWEROF GOD

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the skies announce what his hands have made. Day after day they tell the story; night after night they tell it again. (Psalms 19:1-2 NCV)

JESUS DISPLAYS THE POWER OF GOD

…If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. (John 14:6-11 NIV)

· OVER NATURE ( MARK 4:36-41, MATHEW 21:19 & JOHN 2:7 )

· OVER SICKNESS ( LUKE 5:27)

· OVER SATAN  ( LUKE 8:27-39)

· OVER DEATH ( LUKE 7:11-15)

But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. (Acts 2:24 NIV)

GOD WANTS YOU TO KNOW HIS POWER PERSONALLY

asking the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, to give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation so that you will know him better. I pray also that you will have greater understanding in your heart so you will know the hope to which he has called us and that you will know how rich and glorious are the blessings God has promised his holy people. And you will know that God’s power is very great for us who believe. That power is the same as the great strength  God used to raise Christ from the dead…. (Ephesians 1:17-20 NCV)

TWO WAYS GOD USES HIS POWER TO HELP ME

GOD WANTS TO GIVE ME THE POWER TO GET STARTED

…I want to do the things that are good, but I do not do them. (Romans 7:18b NCV)

...for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. (Romans 7:18b NKJV)

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. (Philippians 2:13 NLT)

GOD WANTS TO GIVE ME THE POWER TO PERSIST

I am worn out, O Lord; have pity on me! Give me strength; I am completely exhausted (Psalm 6:2 GNT)

Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 2:11 NIV)

But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31 NLT)

HOW DO I TUNE INTO GOD’S POWER?

1) ADMIT YOUR LACK OF POWER

You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. (Revelation 3:17 NLT)

But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6 NKJV)

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (II Corinthians 12:9 NKJV)

2) HAVE FAITH IN GOD

“Everything is possible for one who believes.” (Mark 9:23 NIV)

“According to your faith let it be done to you”; (Matthew 9:29 NIV)

3) SPEAK FAITH

And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak, (II Corinthians 4:13 NKJV)

4) ACT IN FAITH

But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?

Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? (James 2:20, 22 NKJV)
