DRESSED FOR SUCCESS

8-16-15 Week 4

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; Ephesians 6:13-17 (NKJV)

 THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT
…and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:17b (NIV)

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life I Timothy 6:12a (NKJV)

TWO THINGS
1st IT’S THE SWORD OF THE SPIRITS. IT’S NOT MINE
2nd IT’S A TWO EDGED SWORD

For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. Hebrews 5:13 (NKJV)

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)

that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word  Ephesians 5:26 (NKJV)

But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” (Matthew 4:4 NKJV)

LOGOS IS THE WORD OF GOD IN ITS ENTIRETY
RHEMA IS A SPECIFIC PROMISE FROM GOD’S WORD

1)    RHEMA WORDS COME BY HEARING
(WHEN WE HEAR THEM THEY CAUSE US TO BELIEVE)

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:8, 17 (NKJV)

God’s word came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness. Luke 3:2b (CEB)

2)    RHEMA WORDS ARE IMAGINATIVE (WHEN WE HEAR THEM THEY CAUSE US TO SEE)

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. II Corinthians 4:16-18 (NKJV)

Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! John 4:35 (NKJV)

Elisha’s servant got up early and went out. He saw an army with horses and chariots surrounding the city. His servant said to Elisha, "Oh, no! Master, what will we do?" "Don’t be afraid," Elisha said, "because there are more of us than there are of them." Then Elisha prayed, " Lord, please open his eyes that he may see." Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he saw that the mountain was full of horses and fiery chariots surrounding Elisha. 2 Kings 6:15-17 (CEB)

3)    RHEMA WORDS ARE CREATIVE
(WHEN WE HEAR THEM THEY CAUSE US TO SPEAK)

But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach) Romans 10:8 (NKJV)

And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak, II Corinthians 4:13 (NKJV)

The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. Genesis 1:2-3 (NKJV)

By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. Hebrews 11:3 (NKJV)

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, (Revelation 12:11aNKJV)

4)    RHEMA WORDS INSPIRING
(WHEN WE HEAR THEM THEY CAUSE US TO ACT)

But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” (
Luke 5:5 NKJV)

Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I have spoken to you I don’t speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me does his works. John 14:10 (CEB)
