Stewardship of Success

As newborn babies want milk, you should want the pure and simple teaching. By it you can mature in your salvation, (1 Peter 2:2 NCV)

THE STEWARDSHIP OF SUCCESS

“Don’t fear, little flock, because your Father wants to give you the kingdom. (Luke 12:32 NCV)

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. (III John 1:2 NKJV)

SUCCESS COMES WITH A WARNING

Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’ “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.” ’ “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.” (Luke 12:15-21 NIV)

Flog a mocker, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke the discerning, and they will gain knowledge. (Proverbs 19:25 NIV)

1ST MISTAKE: HE ASSUMED HIS SUCCESS WAS THE RESULTS OF HIS OWN EFFORTS

...“The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’ (Luke 12:16-17 NIV)

THE ANTIDOTE: RECOGNIZE GOD’S PROVISION AND BE GRATEFUL

…I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows). (John 10:10b AMP)

2ND MISTAKE: HE CONFUSED MAKING A LIFE WITH MAKING A LIVING

Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” (Luke 12:15 NIV)

…do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. (Luke 12:22b-23 NIV)

THE ANTIDOTE: ASK GOD WHAT HE THINKS YOU SHOULD DO WITH YOUR SUCCESS

But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. (Luke 12:31 NIV)

3rd MISTAKE: HE LIVED FOR HIS OWN ENJOYMENT INSTEAD OF LIVING TO INVEST

And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.” ’ (Luke 12:19 NKJV)

THE ANTIDOTE: INVEST IN LIGHT OF ETERNITY

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. (Matthew 6:19-20 NIV)

4th MISTAKE: HE FORGOT WEALTH IS ONLY TEMPORARY

But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ (Luke 12:20 NKJV)

THE ANTIDOTE: BE RICH TOWARD GOD

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Luke 12:34 NIV)
