Week 2
12-12-15

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” II Corinthians (5:7 NKJV)

PROCESS: A SERIES OF ACTIONS THAT PRODUCE SOMETHING

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV)

JACOB: WRESTLES WITH GOD: WHAT ARE YOU FIGHTING FOR?

“Then the Lord said to him, “Go back to the land of your fathers and to your relatives. I will be with you.” Genesis 31:3 (GNB)

“The messengers came back to Jacob and said, “We talked to your brother Esau and he’s on his way to meet you. But he has four hundred men with him.” Jacob was scared. Very scared. Panicked… Genesis (32:6-7a MSG)

Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him. And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!” So He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob.” And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.” Genesis 32:24-28 NKJV)

WRESTLING FOR GOD’S BLESSING IN YOUR LIFE

1) WHAT IS IT THAT YOU WANT SO DESPERATELY FROM GOD THAT YOU WILL FIGHT FOR?

…the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. Matthew 11:12 (NKJV)

Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:

“And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. The Philistines had gathered together into a troop where there was a piece of ground full of lentils. So the people fled from the Philistines. But he stationed himself in the middle of the field, defended it, and killed the Philistines. So the LORD brought about a great victory.” II Samuel (23:11-12 NKJV)

Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” Hebrews 10:35-36, 38 (NKJV)

2) WHO ARE YOU? WRESTLE FOR YOUR NEW IDENTITY

So He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob.” And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.” Genesis (32:27-28 NKJV)

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” II Corinthians (5:17 NKJV)

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it. ” Revelation (2:17 NKJV)

3) WILL YOU LIVE BY FAITH? WRESTLE TO WALK WITH A LIMP

“Then the sun rose as he was leaving that place, and Jacob was limping because of his leg.” Genesis (32:31 NCV)
