The Story of My Life
Habakkuk 1:5 (NLT)
"Look at the nations and be amazed! Watch and be astounded at what I will do! For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn't believe even if someone told you about it.”
The church is far bigger than you think
Matthew 9:37 (NCV)
“Jesus said to his followers, ‘There are many people to harvest but only a few workers to help harvest them.’”
Romans 10:13-15 (NCV)
"Anyone who calls on the Lord will be saved. But before people can ask the Lord for help, they must believe in him; and before they can believe in him, they must hear about him; and for them to hear about the Lord, someone must tell them; and before someone can go and tell them, that person must be sent.”
Acts 17:26 (NIV)
“… God determined the times set for everyone and the exact places where they should live…”
The Big Question: AM I willing to be used by God?
2 Chronicles 16:9 (NIV)
“For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.”
4 Steps to Sharing the Story of Your Life
1. Sensitize Your Heart
•Pray a Dangerous Prayer – “God give me Your heart.”
WE MUST SHIFT OUR THINKING FROM SELF-CENTEREDNESS TO
“God, what could you do with my life if I was dead to my own desires and alive to your purposes in my life?”
WE MUST SHIFT OUR THINKING FROM TEMPORAL VALUES TO ETERNAL VALUES.
Matthew 6:33 (NCV)
“The thing you should want most is God's kingdom and doing what God wants. Then all these other things you need will be given to you.”
Matthew 6:33 (MSG)
“Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don't worry about missing out. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.”
WE MUST SHIFT OUR THINKING FROM SECURITY TO SERVICE.
Hebrews 12:1 (LB)
“Let us strip off anything that slows us down or holds us back… and let us run
with patience the particular race that God has set before us.”
WE MUST SHIFT OUR THINKING FROM COMFORT TO SACRIFICE.
Matthew 6:20-21 (NCV)
“Store your treasures in heaven where they cannot be destroyed by moths or rust and where thieves cannot break in and steal them. Your heart will be where your treasure is.”
2. Build a Bridge of Love
Building a Bridge of Love is going to cost you something.
3. Find Common Ground
Ask really good questions
Proverbs 18:13 (MSG)
Answering before listening is both stupid and rude.
Never waste your pain
It can bring you closer to God
2 Corinthians 7:11 (MSG)
And now, isn’t it wonderful all the ways in which this distress has goaded you closer to God? You’re more alive, more concerned, more sensitive, more reverent, more human, more passionate, more responsible. Looked at from any angle, you’ve come out of this with purity of heart.
Never waste your pain
It can bring others closer to God
2 Corinthians 1:4 (MSG)
He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us.
Philippians 1:12 (NIV)
Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel.
Philippians 1:12-14 (MSG)
I want to report to you, friends, that my imprisonment here has had the opposite of its intended effect. Instead of being squelched, the Message has actually prospered. All the soldiers here, and everyone else, too, found out that I’m in jail because of this Messiah. That piqued their curiosity, and now they’ve learned all about him. Not only that, but most of the followers of Jesus here have become far more sure of themselves in the faith than ever, speaking out fearlessly about God, about the Messiah.
4. Share Your Story
Sharing your story will require you overcome your fear.
2 Timothy 1:7-8 (LB)
“For the Holy Spirit, God's gift, does not want you to be afraid of people, but to be wise and strong, and to love them and enjoy being with them. If you will stir up this inner power, you will never be afraid to tell others about our Lord…”
The opposite of Fear is Love
1 John 4:18 (NIV)
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out all fear…
Amazing Grace – John Newton
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.
through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me.
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease;
I shall profess, within the vail,
A life of joy and peace.
Will anyone be in Heaven because of you?
Isaiah 6:8 (NIV)
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"
