TIS' THE SEASON
A GUIDE TO SURVIVING AND THRIVING THIS CHRISTMAS
Week 2 12-13-14

The Lord and his disciples were traveling along and came to a village. When they got there, a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat down in front of the Lord and was listening to what he said. Martha was worried about all that had to be done. Finally, she went to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn't it bother you that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to come and help me!” The Lord answered, “Martha, Martha! You are worried and upset about so many things, but only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen what is best, and it will not be taken away from her.” (‭Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭38-42‬ CEV)

To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:
He has made everything beautiful in its time..... (‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭3‬:‭1, 11‬a NKJV)

THE PURPOSE OF THIS SEASON IS PEACE
“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” (‭Luke‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬ NIV)

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. (‭III John‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬ NKJV)
WITHOUT THE FORMATION OF THE HEART SIMPLY EDUCATING THE MIND DOESNT BRING PEACE
The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? (‭Jeremiah‬ ‭17‬:‭9‬ NIV)

Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭23‬ NKJV)

THE KEY TO PEACE IS RECONCILIATION
And in addition to everything else, we are happy because God sent our Lord Jesus Christ to make peace with us. (‭Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭11‬ CEV)

God was in Christ, making peace between the world and himself. In Christ, God did not hold the world guilty of its sins. And he gave us this message of peace. (‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭19‬ NCV)

HAVING PEACE IS A POWERFUL MIRACLE CURE FOR BROKEN LIVES AND RELATIONSHIPS

For “He who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit. Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers;... (‭I Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭10-12‬a NKJV)

A harvest that has God’s approval comes from the peace planted by peacemakers. (‭James‬ ‭3‬:‭18‬ GW)

WHAT ROBS OUR PEACE?

1) UNCONTROLLABLE CIRCUMSTANCES
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” (‭John‬ ‭16‬:‭33‬ NLT)

2). UNCHANGEABLE PEOPLE
Pride only leads to arguments, but those who take advice are wise. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭13‬:‭10‬ NCV)

If you reason with an arrogant cynic, you’ll get slapped in the face; confront bad behavior and get a kick in the shins. So don’t waste your time on a scoffer; all you’ll get for your pains is abuse. But if you correct those who care about life, that’s different—they’ll love you for it! Save your breath for the wise. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭9‬:‭7-9 MSG)

3).  SELF CENTEREDNESS
What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. (‭James‬ ‭4‬:‭1-2‬ NIV)
4).  INJUSTICE
In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭26-27‬ NIV)
You may tear out your hair in anger, but will that destroy the earth? Will it make the rocks tremble? (‭Job‬ ‭18‬:‭4‬ NLT)
HOW CAN I HAVE PEACE ?
SURRENDER YOUR LIFE TO GOD'S CARE
“Obey God and be at peace with him; this is the way to happiness. (‭Job‬ ‭22‬:‭21‬ NCV)
“Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you. (‭Job‬ ‭22‬:‭21‬ NIV)
RESISTING GOD ROBS US OF OUR PEACE
It is obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all the time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magic-show religion; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants; a brutal temper; an impotence to love or be loved; divided homes and divided lives; small-minded and lopsided pursuits; the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival; uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions; ugly parodies of community. I could go on. (‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭19-20 MSG)
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! (‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭22-23‬ NLT)
WE ARE HARD WIRED FOR CONNECTION WITH GOD
when we were God's enemies, he made peace with us, because his Son died for us. Yet something even greater than friendship is ours. Now that we are at peace with God, we will be saved by the life of his Son. (‭Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭10‬ CEV)

You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. (‭Isaiah‬ ‭26‬:‭3‬ NKJV)
“Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Accept my teachings and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit, and you will find rest for your lives. (‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭28-29‬ NCV)
Do not worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks. And God’s peace, which is so great we cannot understand it, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭6-7‬ NCV)
