Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Courageous Faith?

A: A 36 month giving campaign that will cultivate a heart for God's house while making room in our hearts for new people and preparing our facilities for those God will bring in.

Q: Why are we having the Courageous Faith Campaign?

A: This is an opportunity for us to continue good management of what God has blessed us with. Courageous Faith Honors the house we have dedicated to God and will allow us to build our new worship center.

Q: How will the money we raised be used?

A: The building fund is kept separate from the general ministry funds. All Courageous Faith gifts will be used to pay the expenses of building a new worship center. It is important to remember that our Courageous Faith gifts are to be in addition to our regular giving for the on-going operation of the church. Otherwise our day-to-day ministries would suffer.

Q: Are we paying any fundraising consultant for this campaign?

A: NO! Pastor Dave designed the campaign based on the biblical instructions God gave for raising the money to build the temple in 1 Chronicles 29.

Q: What kind of reactions should we expect from people?

A: We began this campaign knowing there would be three different reactions:

First, there are those who are already committed to giving. They don't need this campaign. They are spiritually mature, they understand all the reasons why we must build, and they give sacrificially whenever they are asked to.

Second, there are those who are not going to give no matter what we do. They will come up with all kinds of objections, excuses, and criticisms about this campaign. The real issue is they simply don't want to give. We're not doing this campaign for this group either and we won't let the objections of a few rob the rest of us of the joy of giving.

Third, there are those who will want to give when they catch the vision of what we're attempting and how giving will help them grow spiritually. These people are the reason for this emphasis.

Q: How do I decide my giving commitment?

A: First, pray and talk with your family to discuss your faith gift. Involving children is a learning experience and teaches them generosity and faith. Talk about ways God has blessed your life. Thankfulness and generosity go together. Ask yourself, "How can I show I am thankful to God?"

Second, expect God to stretch your faith! Giving by reason asks, "What can I afford?" Giving by revelation asks, "Lord, what do you want to give through me? What amount would stretch my faith, force me to trust you, and depend on your promises?" The first amount is just a starting point. Don't decide in a hurry.

Lastly, if you've never tithed, that is a great place to start!

Q: What we will not do in Courageous Faith?

A: We will not pressure anyone to give. "Each one should give what he has decided to give in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under pressure, for God loves a cheerful giver." 2 Corinthians 9:7

We will not mix giving and personal promotions. "Sell my product in the church and then I will tithe..."

We will not sell junk. David said, "I will not sacrifice an offering that cost me nothing." 1 Corinthians 21:26

Q: What is a tithe?

A: A tithe is the first 10% of what you bring in, given back to God through the local church that you attend.

Q: What is "over and above" giving or an offering?

A: Over and above or offering are phrases we use to explain a gift that is in addition to your regular giving through the tithe.

Q: What happens if I relocate during the campaign?

A: You can continue to honor your "over and above commitment" to Courageous Faith online or mail in your commitment. We know that God honors those who honor their commitments and He loves a cheerful giver. If you have set up a recurring gift on your credit card for the campaign, simply call the church finance office and we can update it as you'd like. Kristy Thurman, Financial Pastor at 360-943-4391 x 104.

Q: Can I be updated on the status of my commitment?

A: Every 3 months you will receive an updated giving statement in the mail. Gifts over and above your regular giving or with, that you've designated as Courageous Faith will also be categorized that way on your giving statement.
